Andy`s success.
Andy Fry and Michael Hunter took part in yesterday`s Pendragon Rally in Cumbria, using Lowther Park and Warcop Army Ranges for its tarmac stages. Andy reports that they finished 2nd in class and 20th overall in the tidy wee MG ZR which ran faultlessly all day. The weather and road conditions were good but Andy admits he made too many mistakes and was actually off the road twice. However he was happy to get a finish and the resultant points gained mean he wins class one in the North of England Tarmac Championship, even though there is still one round to run. Well done Andy and Michael.

Flight Fright.
Our tame Clerk of the Course, Bing Crosbie, jets off for a short holiday next week. He may be quite relieved he`s not flying with Kulula, South Africa`s budget airline that doesn`t take itself too seriously. Their flight attendants make an effort to make the in-flight safety lecture and announcements a bit more entertaining. Here are some real examples that have been heard or reported:
Senior flight attendant "Ladies and Gentlemen we`ve reached our cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin lights. This is for your comfort and to enhance the appearance of your flight attendants". Another one reported was "Thank you for flying Kulula. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride". As one plane landed and was coming to a stop at Durban Airport, a lone voice came over the loudspeaker, "Whoa big fella, Whoa."
On a different flight, "Welcome aboard Kulula 271 to Port Elizabeth. To operate your seat belt, insert the metal tab into the buckle and pull it tight. It works like every other seat belt and if you don`t know how to operate one, you probably shouldn`t be out in public unsupervised." Then, "In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, masks will descend from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask and pull it over your face. If you have a small child travelling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are travelling with more than one small child , pick your favourite."
And there`s more. "Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with broken clouds but we`ll try to have them fixed before we arrive". And from the pilot during his welcome message, "Kulula Airlines is pleased to announce that we have some of the best flight attendants in the industry. Unfortunately none of them are on this flight".
Have a nice break Bing!.

SpeedScene
At the beginning of the year a gentleman by the name of Kenny Baird contacted me for information on High Auldgirth Hillclimb. He was writing an article for a specialist magazine for hillclimb and sprint enthusiasts called `SpeedScene`. The article would concentrate on Scottish Hillclimb venues over the years and he while he was aware of High Auldgirth, he needed pictures, dates and details.
I was happy to oblige and sent him as much stuff as I could. Today I received an e.mail from Kenny, with a copy of the three page article attached as it appeared in the March edition of SpeedScene. He had used two of the pictures I provided, the most striking being a large one of Malcolm Wishart in his Mallock who, unless a great deal of money were to be invested at High Auldgirth, will always hold the hill record there. Back copies are available. Roly P.

A Sign Of Our Times.
Living in Heathhall, I am confronted each morning on my way to work with a large electrical sign at the side of the road which carries a new gem of vital advice for us motoring plebs in bold orange letters. This sign must have cost easily several thousand pounds and appears to be the only one in Dumfries, as I have seen nothing like it elsewhere in the region, other than on the Collin bypass.
What grates most about this monstrosity at the side of the road, apart from the obvious waste of money, is that its messages are so crap. Messages like, `observe the highway code`, `dont eat while driving` and ` belt up in the back` treat the ordinary motorist like simpletons with basic advice which everyone already knows. I wont be in the least bit surprised if future messages say stuff like, `stop picking your nose`, `take that smirk off your face`, `your bum looks big in that` and `did you remember to lock the back door?`.
Seriously, what the **** is the justification of this sign in an era where avoiding unnecessary expense is seen to be a good idea?. £100 to the first motorist to accidentally crash into and destroy this joke. Roly P.

Junior Graduate.
Great to see another of our past Junior Club Champions making it into the stages, as Greg McKnight will compete on his very first stage event in next week`s Merrick Rally in a self built Nova, co-driven by Dad Chris, Greg having passed his BARS test earlier this week. Keep an eye on this young man, as Greg was always quick in Sunday afternoon autotests and had an obvious natural talent for speed and car control.
So, while David Bogie will be at the front, trying to take his second Scottish Championship title, Greg`ll be getting his first taste of the woods from the driver`s seat. Good luck Greg. Roly P.

Pendragon Stages.
In past years, there would have been a large contingent of entries from our area on this popular event but times have changed. In fact for the first time in years, the entry may not be filled by the day of the event, this Sunday, August 29th. The one SOSCC entry is from Andy Fry and Michael Hunter in the Fry Construction MG ZR and of the 89 entries, at the time of writing, they are seeded at 44. Hopefully Andy will remember to provide a report (hint hint) !.

Never a Rally`cross` Word!.
Club member, Ian Biagi`s, just been on the phone. He tells me he had a great day out at Causey Park in the North of England last Sunday at an ANECCC Autocross, where he was 5th overall and second in class in his special. Club autotesters will recall Ian`s Special which he was using a few weeks ago at one of our Closeburn grass autotests. On that day, he appeared to be suffering handling problems but most of us put the fact that car kept spinning, down to the power coming on all of a sudden. Turns out this was a more useful test session than we onlookers thought, as on closer inspection Ian discovered that the wheels were fouling the bodywork, giving the car a mind of its own when least expected. Last week`s result therefore speaks for itself.
Ian has recently returned the car to the spec he had it in in 1998, having fitted a 2 Litre Pinto engine, so now it`s just about as good as it gets.
There are three rounds to go in the ANECCC Autocross Championship but Ian`s immediate focus is on next Monday August 30th, where he will compete in the Bank Holiday Monday Rallycross at Lydden Hill, near Dover. This is a big event and is part of no less than five different championships which attracts competitors from mainland Europe as well as the UK. We wish Ian well and look forward to a report on the event and maybe even a TV appearance?.
Back to the subject of autocross for a moment, Ian is currently campaigning to get the sport back to being accessible to the ordinary clubmen, who have in recent years been disenfranchised from the sport due to the lengthy and onerous rules which have priced autocross out of their range. Shorter and narrower tracks with smaller grids seem to be the main thrust of Ian`s petition, so we await the outcome of this campaign. Ian has promised to keep me informed. Roly P.

History Unearthed.
A few weeks ago I recieved an e.mail from out of the blue from a gentleman called Chris Denham. It read: "Dear Roland. I was browsing the internet and came accross your Car Club website and was delighted to see that the Denham-Cookes Challenge Trophy is still going strong.
The Trophy was started by my father, Philip Denham-Cookes back in the early fifties. He was one of the founder members of the Club and used to race/rally/test an XK120. I thought you may like to know that ,sadly, he died last year at his home in Cumbria. My mother Iris (who used to navigate for him) is still going strong at 90 years old and now living in a retirement home here in Devon. She`ll be pleased to know that Dad`s memory lives on in the Car Club.
I must have inherited his passion for motor sport as I do quite a bit of classsic car rallying myself. (Wish he hadn`t sold the XK!). All success to the club, Regards. Chris Denham".
Since then, Chris and I have continued to correspond and in doing so, Chris has sent me several photographs and newspaper cuttings (8 in all) from way back, one of the cuttings suggesting that our club commenced as far back as 1947, in its initial guise of `Dumfries and District Car and Motorcycle Club`. It has taken me several weeks, considering the intense Wedding, Motor Sport and Guid Nychburris activity that`s been going on but I have finally posted all these Pics and Cuttings on the Gallery in the `Misc`ellaneous section.
Look them up under `H` for historic and you`ll find them all there, grouped together. They make fantastic viewing and reading and certainly help in my quest for more of the club`s history. Chris tells me he has more in an old scrap book and will send some more when he can. Thank you Chris!.
Meantime, if you, Yes You! have anything hidden away that you think might be of interest to the rest of us, dont be shy. Please contact me on 07824 847383 or on big_roly_p@yahoo.co.uk and I`ll be delighted to post it on this site. Roly P.

Our Bob.
Many of our members will have noticed that our friend and club photographer, Bob Little, has not been present at events over the last few weeks. The reason is that Bob underwent a serious and very difficult operation in Edinburgh just over three weeks ago and while I have been kept fully informed by his wife, Jan, on progress it has been slow.
In fact, there have been several complications and setbacks along the way but the latest report from Jan yesterday, was that he seemed to be improving and in better spirits. It could be a while yet before Bob is back behind his camera but I`m sure all club members and readers of `Full Chat` will join me in wishing him well and a speedy recovery. Unselfish as always, from his hospital bed and despite his pain and discomfort, Bob has asked me to send all club members his best wishes. Roly P.

Bill Sturrock.
Some of you will be aware of the lengthy and worrying case taken to court by Raymond Munro against Bill Sturrock (the descriptive route note man from Scotmaps) whom Munro wanted to sue for an accident sustained during a rally. Potentially, if Munro had won the case, which blamed Sturrock for what he claimed was a faulty note, the future of route notes on rallies was at risk. As it happens, the outcome of the case just announced has - thankfully - fallen in favour of Bill Sturrock.
If you dont have access to the `British Rally Forum`, you can have a read through the judge`s findings on our `Links` page under `Bill Sturrock`. While it`ll take you about an hour, it`s worth a read. My own opnion is that some of the evidence given in court was frankly a joke and those responsible should now be ashamed of themselves, although I doubt they will be!. Roly P.

Solway Coast Rally.
Well done to club member, Ian Paterson, who with Bruce Harper took first overall on Sunday`s `Coast`, winning by a mere second from Richard and Nancy Dickson. The last few stages were tense, with these two crews swopping seconds and while Ian stated, going into the last stage that he was unsure whether to go for it and risk an `off` as he had already `damaged his wallet enough today` having made a large dent in the Impreza`s rear bodywork, he was encouraged to `go for it` by his friendly local stage commander and came away with the big prize!.
In fifth place were Stuart Paterson and Colin Maxwell despite sustaining some slight body damage at the front of their Impreza while Iain Haining and Mairi Riddick took the Nova to 13th overall. James Robertson had daughter Claire alongside him for the second time and they took 15th in the C2R2, while Darren Martin and Martin Steele `failed to finish` in the third rally car they`ve used this year, a Mk 1 Escort. I think by they way they were talking that they`ll be back in the Impreza for Hallburn in September!.

Tyneside.
A few SOSCC crews were at Otterburn on August 1st for the Tynesdide Rally. Andy Fry and David Tait drove on the event but the only report to hand is from Club Director, Mike Curry.
"I was competing on the Tyneside Stages co-driving for my regular driver, Andy Davison, in the BMW M3. After 2 non-finishes in a row, we were determined to see the finish control after the challenging dips and crests of the Otterburn Ranges.
Things started well and after 5 stages we held a top ten position . However, an off under heavy braking for a chicane saw us hit a concrete block, which ripped off the sumpguard and broke a strut top mounting. Following hasty repairs at service, we were back out minus the sumpguard, so backing off for the larger jumps was the order of the day.
After setting good times on stages 6 and 7, (which included matching a time with John Cope in his WRC Impreza) we were then hampered by a bizarre incident which resulted in the ingnition key falling from the column after a heavy landing. Upon reaching service it was nowhere to be seen and as it contained the `chip` it was going to be impossible to start the car for the last atage without it.
With only a 20 minute service, it was `all hands to the pumps` as the car interior was stripped, seats out, floor plates out, etc, etc. With only 3 minutes to go to the start of the last stage, the thought of retirment loomed. "Retired - lost key" looked like becoming a reality when it was finally located, having fallen into a box section under the driver`s floor plate.
We managed to fit the seats etc before the control and I refitted the extinguisher on the road section before attemptiing the final stage - panic over!.
A good run at speeds of over 120 mph on the long 19 miler saw us finish 9th overall and 1st in class but the result could obviously have been a lot different.
The key is now cable tied to the column!." Mike Curry.

Crail.
At Crail on Saturday were two crews from SOSCC. At five were Stevie Hogg and his fiancee Kirsty McDonald, in the Courthill Impreza who were leading by a country mile until they took on two punctures at a point on the track which had cut up badly and is the subject of some discussioon on the `British Rally` website. This dropped them a lot of time but they clawed themselves back up to 2nd overall by the end of the day. Well done to Stevie and of course Kirsty, for pulling out such a result after a fairly lengthy break since Stevie`s last event. And talking of last events, this may indeed be Stevie`s last event, as the proven rally winning Scooby is now up for sale, with no prospect of a replacement.
Andy Fry and Michael Hunter were seeded at 37 in the Fry Construction Rover and had got up to 22nd and had a one minute lead over the sixteen cars in class 2, when in stage five, the bolt came loose on the crank and the timing pully came off. They `Failed to Finish`. Very disappointing really, as Andy`s pretty handy on tar. Anyway, he tells me the car will be repaired and ready for the Tyneside Stages on August 1st.

Scottish Rally.
Thanks to all members and friends who signed on to marshal Stage 5, Ae West, yesterday on the Scottish. The stage ran faultlessly, even if some of our volunteers found themselves being attacked by flying objects. No - not midgies, rocks from the wheels of a competitor who steamed over the stop line at full rally speed!. Those from the club who signed on at Ae West were: Colin Marshall, Donald Carruthers, Wendy Walker, Alan henderson, Connor Moore, George Bell, Warren Gillespie, Scott McMillan, Ronnie Clark, James Clark, Kevan Power, Joanne Smith, Gordon Smith, Steven Smith, Glynn Smith, Doug Taylor, David Crosbie, David Pinkerton, Tony Currie, Stephen Kemp, Mark Johnston, Ian McDougall, Paul Charnley, James Henderson, Niall Cowan Junior, Kelsey Gillespie, Heather Currie, Callum Anderson and Lee Docherty. Thanks to all for your assistance. Roly P.
Despite me stating there were six driver entries from SOSCC, by the time I had `been to Specsavers` and also because some folk only just renewed their membership on the eve of the rally there were, in fact, nine.
Top of the finishers were of course David Bogie and Kevin Rae in the Evo 9, who had a pretty straightforward day and set a pace that ensured a 19.2 second lead at the finish, to go to the top of the Scottish Championship (two wins in two weeks isn`t bad going). Ian Paterson and Helen Brown celebrated Ian`s wee boy William`s first birthday with 19th overall in the Impreza, while brother Stuart took himself and Colin Maxwell to 24th and Stuart`s Impreza, shaking of it`s Hallburn gearbox woes.
James Robertson and George Myatt took the raspy wee C2 R2 to 36th, gaining more good class points for the Scottish Championship, while Iain Haining and Mairi Riddick took the Shrek coloured Nova to 38th and more 5 of Clubs points. Darren Martin and Martin Steele were 49th in their Impreza, ten places ahead of Michael Hunter and James McWhir in what I can safely say is one of only very few orange Lada Samara`s that go rallying!. Tam Brown and Mike Curry finished the day 62nd overall in the newly built 205 GTI, which the crew reported had several niggly teething troubles. The only non-finishing SOSCC driver was Niall Cowan Senior, who with `Turbo` Tam Haining retired the borrowed Mk I Escort which I understand, had low oil pressure after stage one.

Donegal.
David Bogie headed for Donegal at the weekend and, sat in the familiar yellow Metro that dad John used to such good effect, made the long trip worthwhile. Initially, David found the car wasn`t handling too well, as he was giving away time to some of the Mk II Escort mounted locals, who looked like they would dominate the event. However, a change to another tyre completely transformed the car and David, (partnered on this occasion by top Irish navvy Enda Sherry) soon grabbed back all the lost time, taking a five second win from Daniel McKenna (Escort) who, when he realised he was being caught, had the cheek to come over to David to tell hime he was mental!.
David says he totally enjoyed the event which he felt was perfect in every way. The Donegal rally is a massive event in Ireland and the support he got from the Irish, as well as many many Scots who had their Saltire flags with them was immense. First in the National was great but it should be noted that his time would have put him eighth in the International event among some quality names such as MacHale, Mcnulty, O`Riordan, Fisher etc etc. Not bad in 20 year old technology against Focuses, Subaru WRC`s etc !.
Whats the odds on David making more visits to Ireland in the future?.

Jim Clark Rally.
Some of our members got good results. Some didny!.
Club member, Mike Curry, was again sat with his regular driver, Andy Davison, in the JCMR National event but sadly retired as a result of numerous issues with the powerful BMW M3.
On stage 2, Abbey St Bathans, the engine mount sheared after a yump which made steering difficult as the exhaust manifold was trapping the universal joint on the column. After limping through SS3, Polwath, it was repaired before parc ferme with a block of wood and two ratchet straps from the trailer, holding up the front of the heavy engine. On day 2, the rear diff subframe broke in half and was repaired with yet another ratchet strap at service. Then to cap it all, the rear brake hose failed under heavy braking for a hairpin and they decided to call it a day . As a result of the above, they have chosen to miss the Rally of the Midlands but will be back out for Otterburn.

Dumfries Lions Raft Race 23/05/10.
Of the fifteen rafts entered for Sunday`s charity race, members from SOSCC had a reasonable presence and as it turned out, took away their fair share of the spoils. Tony Currie`s crew, the SOSCC Ninjas comprised Tony, Paul Whyte, Scott Graham and Colin McKinstry and they started as they meant to carry on, by making a flying start and taking an immediate lead which they never relinquished, even dressed in full cover black outfits on the hottest day of the year so far. The guys were first over the Caul and picked up the winners trophy.
Meanwhile in the six-man category, Mike Currie and Simon McColm were instrumental in getting the Torthorwald `Pie Rats` the trophy for the best fancy dress entry which was undoubtedly well deserved. They also crossed the Caul in third place. Well done to all the guys who did the club proud. See our official photographer Bob Little`s photographs in the alphabetical `Miscellaneous` gallery, under `Raft Race 2010`.

D W Construction Stages, Hallburn, May 2nd 2010.
Sunday`s D W Construction Stages Rally at Hallburn produced virtually non stop excitement for the thirty competing crews and the many spectators, with eight super-fast stages around the extremely dusty ex-airfield.
Clerk of the Course, Ian Crosbie, had maximised the available mileage but after a day long battle over 36 miles of fierce competition and more than a few mishaps throughout the field, first and second overall were separated by only one second. There were several SOSCC crews competing, nine in all.
With one third of the entries coming from SOSCC hopes were high of a local victor and when club members, Billy McLelland and Helen Brown hared round the first 3.5 mile stage in a blistering four minutes and eight seconds, - eleven seconds clear of the next crew, - it looked like this might be their day. However, their lead was short lived, as close contact with some bricks on stage two saw them parting company with a wheel on their Minerals Trust sponsored Evo 3.5, to record their second non-finish here in as many years.
The heavy shroud of dust kicked up by preceding cars soon had its effect, eventual winners Gavin Ruler and David Everard from Hull losing a lot of time on stage one, peering through the cloud and later asking for a two minute gap between them and the car in front, in the hope of getting a clearer run. However only the car at the front had any hope of getting reasonably clear runs and this, after the demise of McLelland / Brown was now car 2, Ian Paterson and Steven Marshall in the Craigie Bank Garage Impreza, as one minute intervals were maintained to keep the rally on schedule.
Ruler and Paterson remained very close on times all day, exchanging fastest times on the remaining stages until, on the penultimate stage, Ian arrived at the end of the opening straight to find that a stone had punctured a brake pipe and the pedal went right to the floor. To his credit with over three miles remaining and needing to pump the pedal furiously, he still managed a competitive time but the damage was done and he was a full nine seconds behind Ruler who was then six seconds faster on stage eight, wiping out the cushion Ian had built up and stealing the win by a solitary second.
David Bogie made an appearance but only in the passenger seat alongside Carlisle`s Peter Taylor who steered his Fiesta to a fine fourth overall and first in class two, while James Robertson took his daughter Claire out on her first rally in the wee C2 and recorded his best ever result, fifth overall and second in class, Claire also receiving the award for first lady finisher.
As Ian Crosbie was otherwise occupied, sponsor Duncan Wardrop had his wife Gill alongside for a rare appearance in the `hot seat` and they took sixth overall in the D W Construction Impreza, later handing over the awards to the numerous trophy winners. Special mention was made of Duncan`s generous sponsorship both financial and in kind, and also the assistance provided by Oakbank Services.
Eleventh of the sixteen finishers were Darren Martin and Martin Steele from Longtown in an Impreza, their trip to the rally being all of two miles long and well worth the hike!. In his winners speech, Ruler paid tribute to Ian Paterson`s drive on the day and thanked everyone for what had been an excellent days rallying. SOSCC non-finishers were: Paul Whyte and Mark Proudlock who rearranged the front of their 205, Tam Haining and George Myatt whose 205 broke an engine mounting, Wullie Keaning and Craig Nelson who damaged the oil cooler on their two litre Nova and Colin Maxwell and Stuart Paterson who broke the gear selector on their RS 2000.

Granite City Rally.
Todays `Granite` saw a few SOSCC members competing and all of them recorded a finish!. At three and on yet another test session for a BRC Round, this one being for next week`s Pirelli Rally in Cumbria, were David Bogie and Kevin Rae. They obviously got the Evo 9 set up properly for next week, taking four stage wins and first overall, a great demonstration of how a rally champion manages a rally!. Helen Brown co-drove number 58 and finished 26th, while David Paterson was in the left hand seat in number 69 and took 35th. James Robertson got more reliability out of his C2 R2, finishing 59th.
Well done all !!!.

Bulldog International Rally of Wales.
This event took place yesterday and was round one of the 2010 British Rally Championship. Our own David Bogie and Kevin Rae started at number four and among the class field were pushing hard enough to be up to seventh overall at one point. However, on entering a control they spotted a tyre that needed to be changed. The crew changed the tyre as quickly as they could and under normal rally rules, this would have been acceptable as time within controls is normally dead time. Only trouble is, this event was run under FIA rules and instead, they picked up a seven minute road penalty!. David describes this simply as a "bad end to a bad day".
The next round of the Dulux Trade British Rally Championship is the Pirelli International on April 23rd/24th.

Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally March. 20th.
David Bogie and Kevin Rae headed the 112 car field away yesterday on the second round of the 2010 Scottish Rally Championship. The pair didnt quite take a win again on this one but a steady third overall here has opened their account on the Scottish Championship, should they decided to contest the rest of the Hankook sponsored series that they won in 2009. They did however, have their eye on the forthcoming first round of the BRC, `The Bulldog` this coming weekend, so as a test session this was invaluable for driver, co-driver and the Oakbank Services Evo 9.
At 119, James Robertson and George Myatt broke a cam belt on the Penpont Garage C2 R2, hopefully with limited colateral damage normally experienced when cam belts go..............

Andy Fry and Michael Hunter were at Ingliston on Sunday for the first round of the 2010 Scottish Tarmac Championship. The new Fry Construction Rover 200 worked well and they took it to a fantastic 12th overall and 1st in class. Andy reports they had no problems all day to finish 3 minutes ahead of the next car in their class. That`s four events and four finishes this year, so they now lead their class in the Scottish and North of England Tar Championships. Apart from the obvious driving talent Andy has, he puts their success to date down to the new shell with better suspension and lots of maintenance between events. Well done guys. Lets hope you can keep it up for the remainder of the season. Roly. P.

Two SOSCC crews were entered for this event which took place in various stages around Cumbria. At 9 were David Bogie and Kevin Rae in the Oakbank Services Evo 9 but it wasn`t ready on time, so they had to miss out. They do however have an entry in for round two of the 2010 Scottish Championship, the Border Counties Rally in a few weeks, so they will be blowing the cobwebs away in the Borders forests.
At 229 were Darren Martin and Martin Steele from Longtown, in the JD Motorsport 205 XS.
Darren reports that he got caught out by ice on stage one and went straight into the same tree that half the field did. Having damaged the radiator, they were forced to nurse the car back to service. The afternoon went better with no problems and the Pug held together but Darren says he just couldn`t keep the Pug on the road. 66th overall was their result. Thanks to Bob Little, whose picture of the boys is now on the rally page.

Scottish thought for today: A recent study conducted by Aberdeen University found that the average Scotsman walks about 900 miles a year. Another study by the Scottish Medical Association found that Scotsmen drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year!!.
This means, on average, Scotsmen get about 41 miles to the gallon. Kind of makes you proud to be Scottish, doesn`t it!!. Cheers.

This was a very well put together event by club members Liam Patterson and Jock Warrick, who are to be congratulated for their fine efforts. Starting in Annan and finishing in Dumfries, it was the first fully subscribed SOSCC 12 car for a while and a welcome sight for the organsisers, who were worried they might fall short of enough entries to run the rally!. Welcome guests from Spadeadam Car Club were expert crews Barry Lindsay & Jerry Hettrick and Dan Haynes & Pete Johnson who seemed to enjoy the different terrain and clues, which they dealt with well, although a few expletives were heard!. We hope they will come back for more.
The usual mix of fortunes were experienced by the crews although everyone seemed in good spirits throughout an event with a lively and competitive atmosphere. A welcome supper of sandwiches, courtesy of the Aberdour Hotel in Dumfries, was the reward for all the crews and marshals who made it back to the finish. Many thanks to George Bell, Colin Marshall, Liam Patterson, Jock Warrick, John Weir, Andy McNish, Stephen Widdowson and Roland Proudlock for marshalling.

North West Stages.
No doubt gutted to have finished this rally were all three of our crews, who spent Friday night and all day Saturday, driving through rally stages, when they could have been enjoying themsleves partying with us at the Crichton Golf Club. Bummer eh?.
However, to have all our crews finish a rally is an achievement in itself if you cast your mind back 2009 where if one crew did well, another one would have a `mare. Duncan Wardrop and Ian Crosbie, got off to a very timid start, Ian commenting on Friday night after a handful of stages that the new Scooby was a `steep learning curve`. Languishing well down the list, they did something about on Saturday and I`m delighted to report that this pair ended the rally 28th overall and 17th in class D. (There were 100 starters and 47 finishers). Andy Fry and Michael Hunter took their newly acquired Rover 200 to 34th overall and 5th in class A, while David Tait and David Crosbie finished 38th o/a and 6th in class B. Well done to all. Hopefully they will report in with more info.
