Regulations for Field Events.

Classes.

1 Unmodified, with engine over driven wheels up to 1400 cc.
2 Unmodified, with engine over driven wheels over 1400 cc.
3 Unmodified, front engine, rear wheel drive up to 1300 cc.
4 Unmodified, front engine, rear wheel drive over 1300 cc.
5 Any of the above or specials / modified cars / 4 wheel drive cars or cars with limited slip differential.

4WD and Limited Slip cars carry a 10% added time penalty. `Modified` will not mean removing bumpers or seats, or making any other `cosmetic` alterations, but will mean, modifying the engine, gearbox or axle to improve engine performance or traction. Adding a sump guard, roll cage, full harness or any other safety accessory will not be deemed, in the spirit of the above description, as a `modification`.

PLEASE NOTE. From January 1st 2008, cars must be entered in the appropriate class. For example, unmodified cars with engine over driven wheels up to 1400cc, must enter class 1, etc. From that date, only specials, modified cars, 4 wheel drives or cars with limited slip differentials, may enter in class 5.

Entries.

For all field events, must either be made by post, or for example for Sunday events, they should be phoned in by Saturday 1.00pm to the organiser of the event or to the competition secretary.
Closing date for entries is 24 hours before the event. Entries will be accepted on the day of the event but there will be a surcharge of £2 added to the normal entry fee and no class or championship points will be awarded.

Scrutineeering.

Will commence 45 minutes before the start time of the first car. Any competitor not signed on 15 minutes before the start time, may not be allowed to start. Cars must be presented in good general condition and particular attention will be paid to suspension, steering, brakes, and all safety items. In addition, where possible, cars must have a double throttle return spring fitted.

Scoring.

First in each class on each event will receive 12 points, 2nd 11, 3rd 10, etc etc and these points will go toward both the class championships and the club championships. Ties will be resolved by the fastest on the first test or second test etc.

Wrong direction penalty will be the time of the slowest car in the class, on that test, plus 10 seconds. Each cone or marker hit will incur a 5 second penalty. Scoring for classes and championship, will be from 12 points down to one point (non finishers - 1 point.)

Time.

One o`clock is usually the start time but as with all events, you should always check with the organiser.

Miscellaneous.

1/ Competitors must drop one score (normally their worst score) in the field event championship, if they take part in all field events run during the year.

2/ On events where members of the South of Scotland Car Club compete as invited guests on Solway Car Club Autotests or PCTs, SOSCC members will compete under Solway CC rules and scoring system and SOSCC Championship points will be awarded for the result achieved under these rules.

3/ Competitors will only be permitted to enter once under temporary (£2) membership, in any calendar year. Subsequent entries in the same year, will require the full club membership fee to be paid.

4/ From January 1st 2008, no more than four competitors may compete in any one car and score points. All four drivers must be entered in the same class.

Field Event Awards.

The first three in each class at the end of the year, will receive an award.

Regulations for 12 Car Navigational Rallies.

Novice.

A competitor who has not won an award on any 12 car rally. If they have won an award as a driver, they may still compete as a novice navigator or vice-versa. All time controls will be provided to novices at the start of the rally. An award will be presented to first overall novice driver and novice navigator at the end of the year.

Non-Expert

Means any competitor that is not eligible for the novice or expert classes. Crews will be given 50% of the time controls at the start of the rally. An award will be presented to the first overall non-expert crew, at the end of the year.

Expert Class.

Anyone may enter this class. The overall winner must come from this class as no controls other than the final control may be given to expert crews. Awards will be presented to the first three overall drivers and navigators at the end of the year.

Penalties.

Will be awarded on the `Fail` system, as per the Blue Book. Points will be awarded from 12 points for 1st overall down to 1 point for 12th overall (non finishers - 1 point).

Awards

Ayrshire Trophy.

To the first SOSCC crew in the West of Scotland Navigational Rally Championship.

Good Companions.

Awarded to someone outwith the committee, who has assisted the club throughout the year.

Marshals Trophy.

Awarded to the person who has marshalled most throughout the year.

Wreckers Trophy.

Awarded to the driver who manages to damage his / her car most, over the year.

Scavenger Hunt Trophy.

This is competed for at club nights or social events, consisting of Quizzes, Treasure Hunts (in cars or on foot), Scavenger Hunts, etc.

Jim Clark Trophy.

To be awarded to the highest placed SOSCC crew on the Solway Coast Rally.

Ace Of Clubs Trophy.

Awarded to the highest placed crew on the Five of Club Championship. Both crew must be SOSCC members and a 4.5` X 12.5` club sticker must be carried on each side of the competing car, on each 5 of Clubs Championship round competed on.

Southern Garage Trophy.

Awarded to highest placed SOSCC crew in the `National B` section of the Scottish Rally.

Vauxhall Trophy.

Awarded to the highest placed competitor using a Vauxhall car on field events.

British Leyland Trophy.

Awarded to the highest placed competitor using a British Leyland car on field events.

Ford Trophy.

Awarded to the highest placed competitor using a Ford car on field events.

Francis Dundas Trophy.

Awarded to the best novice. A novice is someone in their first year of competition. Includes all field events and 12 car rallies.

SMTA Trophy.

Awarded to the highest placed registered club crew in the West of Scotland Stage Championship.

Buccleuch Trophy.

Awarded for the most outstanding performance by a club crew over the year, in stage rallying.

A. K. Stephenson Trophy.

Awarded to the highest placed registered club crew in the Scottish Rally Championship.

Top Gear Trophy.

You may compete in any 10 stage rallies, with your best 8 scores counting towards the final total. First crew 10 points, second crew 8 points, third crew 6 points and so on. Awarded to the driver.

John Bogie Trophy.

As per rules for the Top Gear Trophy. Awarded to the co-driver.

`Guid Nychburris` Autotest Trophy.

Awarded to first driver overall, on the Guid Nychburris Tar Autotest, usually run in June.

Embassy Hotel Trophy.

Awarded to the club crew with the most points from any rallies competed in throughout the year. Scottish Rally Championship events are not included for this award. Points awarded, first crew 10 points, second crew 8 points, third crew 6 points and so on.

George Myatt Junior Trophy.

(Junior Champion Award.) This award will be presented to the club member who, over the year, has scored the most points, up until the year which commences after they have reached their 17th birthday. (If they turn 17 on January 2nd, they remain a junior for the remainder of that year.)

Ladies Champion Trophy.

Awarded to the female who has gained the most points in the club championship. Junior ladies may not compete for this award.

Queensberry Trophy.

Awarded to the overall champion, having gained the most points overall in the club championship which includes 12 Car Rallies, Autotests on Grass and Tar and PCTs.

Junior members, male or female, may not compete for this award.

Members are advised that it is their responsibility to contact the club Competition Secretary at the end of the year in which they have been competing on events outwith the club, to ensure that he / she is aware of results and can allocate points accordingly. As there are many events being taken part in by members, this will ensure that the rightful recipient of any trophy is correctly identified. Neither the Comp` Sec` nor the Committee, will accept responsibility if a member fails to follow this simple advice.

These awards are normally presented at the end of January / early February but contact with the Competition Secretary should be made no later than the end of December.

Members are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure that all membership fees are paid up to date before competing on any event, either within or outwith the club. Points for all awards will only be allocated once full (not temporary) membership fees have been paid and will not be awarded retrospectively. (Membership fees are due on January 1st.)
