Blue Door Doonhamer Regs & Entry Form 2018
Only 10 days left to get your entries in for our Doonhamer Classic on the 30th September sponsored by The Blue Door Dental practice
For our event we would like thank our sponsor in advance The Blue Door Dental Practice from Dumfries.
We are hoping to use a more compact route than in previous years at just 90 miles, which will take competitors to 16 excellent and varied tar, concrete and gravel tests, all of which are ‘classic car friendly’. and all of the tests are open with no reversing and will not require a photographic memory to get competitors round !
The entry fee is just £100 with membership for SOSCC (meaning that no competition licence was required), Breakfast & Tea/Coffee will be at the start, Snack meal at Lunch are provided within the entry fee and food will be available to purchase at our new Start/Finish venue at Lockerbie Lorry Park P.C : DG11 2SL All marshals also got breakfast .
The event started at the Lockerbie Lorry Park on service road near Lockerbie at 9.31 am, where a tar test takes place immediately, before the crews leave for the open road. The first car was back at the finish at 3.30 pm.
No maps are required as the full route is on a tulip diagram route book, allowing simple navigation. As well as all the usual classes for Classic Cars up to 1981, Modern 2 Wheel Drive Cars M6 Targa Class also participated but not for overall awards. Grateful thanks to all who officiated, sponsored, supported, marshalled, competed or assisted in any way. The word Doonhamer (pronounced ‘doon hamer’ ) originated from past times, when people from Dumfries travelled North to the central belt of Scotland to work during the week, but then travelled down home or (in a Scots dialect), ‘doon hame’ at the weekend! They all became known affectionately as ‘Doonhamers’ and it stuck. Dont say you never learn anything on this website!
